Estimation of sediment bed load is one of the most important issues in river engineering. Accordingly, several methods and relations have been proposed to estimate the bed load in streams for the past decades. The present research aimed to select the most accurate method to estimate bed load through the testing of various relations to estimate the bed load of the Hablehroud River. The hydraulic and geometric specifications of the Hablehroud River at Bankouh hydrometry station were measured on specific dates by the expert team. The bed load rate was calculated by four different relations in Bankouh hydrometry station from 2011 to 2017. Resultant data showed that the Toffaletti method with RMSE, MAE, and R2 of 20.07, 10.86, and 83 estimates more accurate in comparison with other methods. The sensitivity analysis of the Toffaletti equation revealed that the bed load depends greatly on the velocity of the river flow. Such a method is firmly recommended to use in the mountainous region.

In most water resources studies, the bed load transport rate is considered as a constant proportion of total load due to the difficulty and costs associated with measuring of it, which is not reasonable due to the high variability of this ratio. In this study, data collected from 19 coarse-grained rivers in the United States were employed to predict bed load, total load transport rates and the ratio of bed to total sediment load using Support Vector Machine which is a branch of intelligent methods. Next, the results were compared and evaluated with classical methods. Results showed that this method has a very high performance compared to the classical methods and performance criteria in predicting the bed to total sediment load ratio has acceptable results. In addition, the modeling showed that the ratio of average velocity to shear flow velocity and the Froude number is the most effective parameters in predicting bed load, total load and the ratio of these.

Eroded soil particles within watershed areas are transported in three shape of dissolved, suspended and bed loads by river water discharge. Knowing the amount of suspended and bed loads are necessary in estimating sediment yield of watersheds. Usually, suspended load is measured daily in hydrometric stations, while this does not happen for bed load. Although, there are many differences between geology formations, rainfall intensities and water discharges of watersheds, the amount of bed loads are considered as a constant unique coefficient of suspended load. So, there would be highly errors in watersheds’ sediment load estimates. In this research, after collecting bed and suspended load data of three hydrometric stations of Badlan on Alandchay, Pol Yazdakan on Ghotourchay and Mazraeh on Baroonchay Rivers in Western Azerbaijan, the data were analyzed and best relations were fitted between bed load and suspended loads. According to statistical analysis all data had high coefficient of correlation at the level of 99 percent and the best equations were chosen accordingly. The ratio of bed to suspended load in Yazdakan, Badlan and Mazraeh stations were 79, 49 and 13 percent, respectively. This ratio was 47 percent for all three stations.

Sedimentation is one of the most important problems in watershed management. The characteristics of geological formations are the most basic factors which have an important role in sediment yield. There are several methods for sediment estimation, but sediment transport equations and formulas have been developed for special conditions which may not represent all conditions. Therefore to find out which method is suitable for a specific river, it is required to compare each method with the measured data. The purpose of this research is to evaluate efficiency of different methods of sediment discharge estimation in Jagin River at Panhan hydrometric station. The methods of modified Einstein, Engelund-Hansen, Yang, Habibi and Van Rijn are used in this investigation. The required data was collected from Water Regional Organization of Hormozgan Province. The sediment yield is estimated based on concentration of collected samples of floodwater. Then, the collected data were checked and corrected. The conclusion shows that the modified Einstein method is the most suitable method for sediment estimation in the study area.
